The Odds of the Braves Making the Playoffs Are Approximately Not Very Good

July 14, 2008

Depending on which impossibly complicated calculation you prefer, the Braves’ odds of making the playoffs are 8.14073, 7.89066, and 5.45408 if the rest of the season were played a million times. (If you want to truly understand the definition of nosedive, consult the eighth column starting around June 1st and then scroll down.)

These are not, as they say, good odds. According to a lazy Google search, they are roughly the same odds of you developing diabetes if you’re an American. Coincidentally, I hope, eight is also the percent of the average Mexican family’s income that goes toward paying bribes. Please note that I’m aware that neither of those examples are at all relative or perspective-granting.
