About Ron Gant Forever

Hi. My name is Taylor. I live in Baltimore now but was born and raised in the comfortable suburbs of Atlanta. For the most part this blog will be about the Atlanta Braves, but it will occasionally mention other happenings in baseball.

Why Ron Gant, you ask? Well, let me tell you. When I was a young lad, around 7 or 8 years old, I used to play baseball in my backyard just about everyday with my friend Mitchell. Because it was one-on-one, we would each select a pitcher and batter to be before the game. Because it was the early 90s, Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Bonds were obviously popular choices, but we were both Braves fans so we’d sometimes spend way too long arguing over who could be Ron Gant. While he was never as dominant as Mr. Griffey or Mr. Bonds, he was absolutely essential to those early 90s Braves teams. As you can see here, his seasons in 1990, 1991, and 1993 were pretty spectacular. I remember being very sad when the Braves released him in 1995, and I consider my Gant-autographed baseball to be one of my prize possessions.

The blog was originally called “Kent Hrbek is a Dick” but I changed it because for all I know he might be a very nice person now. That being said, what he did to Mr. Gant during the 1991 World Series is unforgivable.

If you want to yell at me or say good job or send a link or just say hello, email me at rongantforever@gmail.com. I’ll be more than happy to read it and will most likely respond.

    Taylor,

Ron Gant is my brother in law. He married my sister in 1996. I think your website is amusing , but if you want any skinny on Ron , let me know.

  2. xxxxx Says:

what’s skinny on Ron? is he a nice guy or one of those guys that has 2 and 3 kids out there that no one knows about? We all hope that at least one of those athletic icons is a good guy.

  3. Taylor Says:

With all due respect to xxxxx, I’m not interested in hearing stories, good or bad, about Ron Gant’s personal life. Hearing anything good would only maintain the fond recollection I have, and hearing anything negative would essentially ruin my memories of one of my childhood heroes.

Plus two or three kids that no one knows about is not that bad. I mean, Shawn Kemp has at least 12 kids no one knows about and he is still awesome (or he is still awesome in my memory – now he is fat and playing off the bench in Italy).

Really, I appreciate the offer from Justin and the inquiries from xxxxx (who should know that there are dozens of athletic icons who are good guys, including many from ATL teams – Warrick Dunn, John Smoltz, etc), but I’m really not interested in anything personal about Mr. Gant.

i understand. maybe i shouldn’t have brought the personal life issue into question. i always feel bad for those kids that get left behind. Shawn Kemp was a great player, but isn’t sad that those kids don’t have a father? no answer needed .. i guess fat and playing on the bench in Italy is his story now …. and maybe God’s way of paying him back …anyway, i guess if stories about kids are what your readers are interested in, they’d let you know. in the meantime, hope Ron’s athletic ability goes down in history.

    Taylor,

First of all, I would not say anything bad about Ron. He was a childhood hero to me also. He is a BIG Dallas Cowboys fan, loves golf, I was reffering to things like that.

Taylor, I cannot believe you have this website! It just so happens that I live and think about Ron Gant the same way you do. I had the privilege of meeting him and getting his autograph in 2001 when he played for the Rockies. He remains my favorite baseball player of all time and when my frineds hate on me or how I like Ron Gant, I ask them what of their favorite star players made it to the 30-30 club back to back years?! (Besides “Barry Bonds*”)

Ron Gant is the man. he is also my child hood hero. i met him in kansas city when he played for A’s and the Padres. I was at the game when he hit a game winning Grand Slam in kansas city his year with the padres. and we snuck in by the locker room after the game to meet him. he is a great guy and i miss his big swing at the plate is was a pretty looking swing.
